I've been really getting into this new Brooklyn band phenomenon, like an NME bitch. My favourite two, being PASSION PIT and AMAZING BABY (alright, checking Passion Pit's Myspace reveals them to be from Boston, sorry!)

In my life, it got announced the other day that I've joined DUELS. As I've commented to a few people, I've always been in Duels, we've all only just realised. The band are gearing up to give away last years immense The Barbarians Move In (see back here) free on their website, and crack on with Duels III and this is giving us top impetus. It's undoubtedly going to sound pretty awesome.

Finally, I DJ'd a new night (Beak & Wings) at the newly re-opened Josephs Well on Friday night, which was a lot of fun, better than I expected. We're doing another new night at Elbow Rooms on the last Saturday of the month which will be a similar mix of good tunes and fun times

Bjork, Everybody Remixing, DJing

Aww, I need to thank Mr Keep Hope Inside for commenting on my last post, about El Guincho on the new Bjork covers album. I like Keep Hope Inside, it's a blog here

Anyway, Stereogum, great webzine with lots of free tracks, have put together a tribute album of Post by Bjork (having previously done Automatic For The People and Ok Computer to mixed results). You can get all the tracks and info here, I urge you to do so!

Everyone's getting remixes done at the minute. The world seems to be swamped with Foals - Electric Bloom and Radiohead's Nude, after iTunes and Last.Fm are running competitions. I've just finished a remix of This Et Al's Figure Eight and am pretty happy. Think I'm gonna have a crack at the Foals one too. Radiohead aren't having any of my money, thieving bastards (you have to pay for their parts, which cunningly will help them in the pop charts

Finally, I'm DJing tomorrow night, at Art Is Hard in Leeds. I'm currently listening to lots of hot remixes, many nicked off this ace blog. I won't get to play any of them of course, unless I get really pissed

DJ Report #1 - The Mae Shi

I said a few posts below, I had a bit of inspiration when finally deciding to start up this blog in terms of different topics and ideas to talk about. Here is one in motion...

I seem to be spending a lot of weekend time DJing at various Leeds establishments while being home, and I had much fun at Trash on Friday for Art Is Hard - which featured a new band from ex-Komakino fellas - You Animals

But the interesting thing came relatively early on when I played "Run To Your Grave" by LA inhabitants THE MAE SHI. No less than 5 people came up to me to find out what the song was, I don't think I've ever had a reaction like it from playing a song. Maybe it was because people weren't completely hammered yet

THE MAE SHI come from LA and Run To Your Grave is actually from there 3rd album (I think...), but from what I can tell it's the first to get a decent push in the UK - coming out soon through Moshi Moshi. 

The video is above and it reminds me of fun like Deerhoof and Xiu Xiu, and I'm suprised they haven't featured as heavily as things like No Age in the tips for '08 lists. They tour the UK in the next few weeks
